Who needs a fancy playroom?

It may not be the nicest playroom in the world, but the kids sure do have fun there! Where else can you go on a day when the temperatures are in the negative 30's - yes you read that right - and still have so much fun??? ...and best of all, never leave the house, or even get out of your pj's!

Who needs Chuckie Cheese?

They can play pop a shot:

Or shoot some hoops...they like to jump off the mini trampoline to slam dunk!

McKenna loves to create new artwork...

...to hang in our fancy-schmancy art gallery!

Where else can you go on a cold winter day and ride bikes...

...or scooters...

...or horses and sit and spins...

...or teeter-totters?

Oh, and I can't forget the kid's absolute favorite thing to do in the "playroom"...
Is this not the coolest train/plane set?

For those of you with toddlers, preschoolers or early school-age kids I highly recommend this toy. It's the one thing that can keep both of my kids playing together without fighting and entertained for hours at a time!

Oh, and if all of that isn't enough...they can cook dinner in the mini-kitchen...
...or build potato-head families...

...or play with the millions of other toys that inhabit our "not-so-fancy" playroom!

Happiness Is...

...watching your husband play Pretty, Pretty Princess with your little princess!

(Nice earrings Jay...and those are some great shamrock socks, McKenna!)

Where did the last 6 years go???

I'm planning McKenna's 6th birthday party...yes, I said 6!!!! Gone are the days of Elmo and Dora...she's all about wanting a High School Musical birthday party this year!

Can you believe that my precious baby girl is going to be 6? I absolutely cannot fathom that idea! It's a good thing that I still have a couple of weeks to get used to it!

Anyway, I was looking back at some old pictures tonight, just remebering what she was like as a baby and ran across a few pictures that I just had to share. These are very grainy because they were taken on my 35 mm camera - in the days before digital! - and scanned in, but they are some of my favorites from her first year:

Our princess is born. This is the first photo taken of McKenna. Our OB was holding her up for us to see as Jason said, "Honey, we have a little daughter!" I'll never forget that moment, because I thought my whole pregancy that I was having a boy. I figured that I would never be lucky enough to be blessed with a little girl!

Look how tiny she was! She was 6 weeks premature, 5 lbs, 11 oz. at birth. This photo was taken around 2 weeks old:

Could she be any cuter? This is one of my alltime favorite pictures!

Look at my little baldy! She lost all of her hair and then it didn't grow back until she was 2!

Okay, so I couldn't just stop a her first year! Here are a few more of my favorites!

Swim lessons at 1 1/2 years old:

Playing dress-up at 2 years old:

McKenna meeting her baby brother, Chase for the first time. She was 3 weeks away from turning 3 years old. The first thing she said when she saw him was, "He's absolutely perfect!" How sweet is that?

All dressed up for Easter - 3 years old:

My little ballerina - 4 years old:

Beach vacation - 4 1/2 years old:

Her first cheer competition - 4 1/2 years old:

1st day of kindergarten - 5 1/2 years old:

My little DIVA - Christmas - almost 6 years old!

And...stay tuned for a picture of my big 6 year old...just 2 weeks away!

Thanks baby girl, for making me a mommy and for giving me so many wonderful memories. I can't wait to see what the next year brings for you. No matter how old you are or how big you get, you will always be my little princess!

Chase's Birthday Party!

Chase had a SPIDER-riffic 3rd birthday!

Chase was so happy when he woke up this morning, you could tell that he understood that today was completely all about him! He woke up before Jason and I heard him go up to Jason and say, "Daddy, guess what...I'm fwee years old!"

In our house we have a tradition of letting the birthday person pick a restaruant to have dinner or lunch at on the day of their birthday. Well, since Chase's birthday and party fell on the same day we decided to let him pick where he wanted to go for breakfast instead. With a LOT of help from his sister (she actually told me, "see mom, I knew I could get him to go where I wanted!") he picked McDonald's Playland. Jason and I were hoping for Bob Evans!

It actually turned out great though because there weren't any other kids there and we got our food quick!

Way back in November Chase told us he wanted a Spider-Man birthday party. Jason and I decided to keep it small and low-key and just have cousins and a few of Chase's friends over to our house for the party. Well, we did end up having it at our house, but I don't think we did too well with the whole "low-key" part!

Below are a few pictures from Chase's big day!

Chase before his party:

Check out the "spider web" on our patio door:

As party guests arrived they got to to color a spider-man picture: (this picture shows Chase with his Uncle Chad and cousin, Mason)

Then we ate pizza and chips: (This picture shows Chase with his cousin, Isaac, our friend Chris, her son Xander and Chase's best buddy, Aidan)

After everyone was finished eating the kids...I mean parents...worked on a spidey craft: (This picture shows Chase getting help from his daddy and his cousin, Mason getting help from his dad, Uncle Chad)

Oh, and here's a cute picture of Chase wearing his Spider Hat:

As we were working on crafts a very special visitor arrived: (Thanks to Chase's Uncle Brandon!)

Chase was just a little hesitant at first, but went right up to him and gave him a hug. Most of the kids were excited to see him, but there were a few who were scared - thankfully though, no one cried!

Here's a picture of Spider-Man with most of the kids from the party...Mason, Isaac, Caleb, Xander, Carly and Colton wanted nothing to do with Spider-Man so they aren't in the picture.

And, just because she's such a doll...here's one of my little princess with Spider-Man:

Spider-Man helped sing Happy Birthday to Chase: (The absolute sweetest part of this was that Chase actually sang happy birthday to himself along with everyone else!)

...and then it was time for Spider-Man to return to his web!

Everyone ate cupcakes and ice cream:

Then Chase got to open his presents:

He got so many great presents, a Geo Trax airport to go with his train set, bunches of spiderman toys, CARS pj's, a remote control car, dinosaur sets, a spiderman build a bear, clothes...but the best gift of all was getting to spend time playing with his friends and cousins. Chase had an absolute BLAST at his birthday party! Thanks to everyone who helped to make it so special for my little man!

Oh, and here's one last picture...Chase's babysitter got him a Spider-Man costume...isn't he an adorable little Spider-Man???

Happy 3rd Birthday to my Little Man!

Dear Chase,

I just want to tell you how very happy you make me! I am so blessed to be your mommy and am very thankful that God chose your daddy and I to be your parents.

I can't believe that tonight, at 4:27 a.m., you will turn 3 years old! This year will bring so many changes for you, including starting preschool. How in the world can you already be old enough to be starting preschool?

It seems like just yesterday that I was so worried about you during my pregnancy. 3 months of bedrest and my obsessive worrying about the fluid that was backed up into your kidneys at every ultrasound that I had with you were more than worth it and I would gladly do it all over again.

I still remember the first time that I saw your sweet little face during one of my ultrasounds at the perinatologist in Akron:

I immediatly fell head over heals in love with your chubby little cheeks and your cute little nose and I knew that despite being in labor at only 20 weeks pregnant and despite your kidney issues and despite facing months of bedrest that I'd do whatever it took to keep you safe inside my womb for as long as you needed to be there.

And stay there you did!

My ob took me off of the medication that I had been on to stop my contractions when I was 36 weeks pregnant with you. He told me to still take it easy though because he didn't want you to be born before I was 37 weeks pregnant. Well, you must've wanted to show what a good listener you were because you were born at exactly 37 weeks!

On January 4th, 2006 at 4:27 in the morning, I got the pleasure of meeting the most beautiful baby boy on earth! My little Chase Robert:

You were a great baby right from the start and boy did your sister ever love you to pieces. When she came up to the hospital to see you for the first time she said, "He's absolutely perfect!" And she was right. You are absolutely perfect!

When we brought you home, we were prepared to have lots of sleepless nights with a baby who didn't eat or sleep on any type of schedule at all...just like your sister :) But, you surprised us. You were very much a "schedule baby" and you were a great sleeper from the moment we bought you home. Your newborn days were pretty easy...you really were a good baby, always full of smiles and happy to be entertained by your adoring big sister, McKenna!

I feel so lucky to have gotten to spend your first 7 months at home with you. You grew and changed so much in that time and I was, and still am, very grateful for those special moments that I was able to share with you.

By the time you celebrated your first birthday, you were starting to talk a little bit and were crawling all over the place and walking holding onto your push toy. You'd had many firsts including your first family vacation (to Niagara Falls):

and your first Halloween, you were Goliath from the cartoon, JoJo's Circus (sissy was JoJo)

Boy did you love your birthday cake!

Once you were one it seemed like you really really started to become a big boy quick! You started walking...I mean running, everywhere and climbing on everything! We realized that we should've named you Sit or Stay because all we did was CHASE you everyhwere!

Everywhere we'd go, people would comment on what a "pretty" boy you were or how gorgeous your eyes were...and of course they absolutely were right, who could resist those baby blues?

Your personality really started to come out, as did your stubborn streak! If you wanted something you made sure we all knew about it!

During this time you also took your first vacation to the beach. You really liked the waves and were amazed by the sand!

Your 2nd year brought a lot of changes as well. In the past year you have grown so much and as I look at you now I realize that you are no longer a baby, you are now a little boy! There are so many things that I love about you. I love that you are all about your mommy! You love your daddy and sissy dearly, but you are a complete mommy's boy! I love your sense of adventure - even though it has landed us in the ER a couple of times! I love how you look out for your big sister. I can already tell that you are going to be her protector as you both grow up. I love how you snuggle up next to me in bed when you wake up before me in the mornings. The list could go on and on...

In the past year you have grown so much:

You've learned how to ride a big boy bike...and do stunts:

You've gone from sleeping in your crib, to sleeping in a big boy bed...in fact you now have a whole new room!

As sad as I am to see you grow up, I'm equally excited to see what this year brings for you. I know you are so excited to go to school, "like sissy" and I can't wait for you to have that experience.

You always ask me if "I'm happy at you" and yes Chase, I'm very happy at you! I'm happy to be your mommy and I'm happy to be given the priviledge of watching you learn and grow. Thank you for being my sweet, adorable, loving little boy.

I love you to the moon and back!
Love,
Mommy

Ice Skating and Snow Skiing

We've had a fun couple of days!

Yesterday we took both of the kids ice skating for the very first time! (It was my very first time too!) I don't have any pictures because I didn't think I'd have a chance to take them since I figured we'd both have to help the kids the whole time we were there.

Both of the kids did awesome and loved it so we will definitely go back...and I'll take my camera next time! The ice rink had these little "walker" things that the kids were able to hold onto and push as they skated. They helped them keep their balance and not fall as often.

McKenna took off like a champ and wanted absolutely no help at all from either of us. By the end of our 2 hour session she was letting go of her walker and skating without any help from all.

Chase needed a little more help, but after a couople of times around the ice with me holding onto him he was able to use his walker and skate all by himself! The ice rink is open year round so we will definitely be visiting often...too bad it's 45 minutes away!

Today, Jason took McKenna skiing for her first time! Just as I suspected, she had a blast and can't wait to go back. We thought she'd only want to go for a couple of hours, but when that time was up she didn't want to leave! She ended up skiing with Jason for 5 hours!

Here are some pictures: My little snow skiier: Heading to the ski lift: Coming down the bunny hill: My 2 ski bums!(having a snack in the lodge): And...if you'd like to see her in action, here's a short video:

My Latest Love!

Thanks to a very special Christmas gift from Jason and the kids, I now have a new obsession to spend my money on...Trollbeads. DO NOT GOOGLE THEM...unless you want to spend all of your extra money filling bracelets with beautiful, meaningful beads! But, if you do google and you decide you want to buy one, give me a call and I'll go shopping with you!

For Christmas Jason and the kids bought me the Troll Bracelet, Flower lock/clasp, turquoise armadillo bead, letter m (for McKenna) and a letter c (for chase) and the china bead.

I went shopping today and bought myself 6 more beads!!!!

turquoise/green spring bud (for my mom and grandma since both of their birthdays are very near to the beginning of spring) http://trollbeads.com/site/trollbeads_usd/visprodukt.asp?id=3713

blue flower (because I love the colors!) http://trollbeads.com/site/trollbeads_usd/visprodukt.asp?id=2416

milky way (because I've always been facinated with astronomy) http://trollbeads.com/site/trollbeads_usd/visprodukt.asp?id=3809

silver trace blue/cerise (just because I loved how it looked next to the blue flower bead) http://trollbeads.com/site/trollbeads_usd/visprodukt.asp?id=3708

snow (because both of my kids were born during snowstorms) http://trollbeads.com/site/trollbeads_usd/visprodukt.asp?id=2209

and ocean (because that is my favorite place in the world!) http://trollbeads.com/site/trollbeads_usd/visprodukt.asp?id=2229

Oh, and I also ordered 4 more beads because they didn't have them in stock:

Carribean (again, just loved the colors!) http://trollbeads.com/site/trollbeads_usd/visprodukt.asp?id=2418

3 siblings (because the story of this bead reminds me of my relationship with my brother and sister) http://trollbeads.com/site/trollbeads_usd/visprodukt.asp?id=2231

crab (because my zodiac sign is cancer) http://trollbeads.com/site/trollbeads_usd/visprodukt.asp?id=2211

and lucky knot (because the reason that I was able to get all of these beads was due to a lot of LUCK!)
