#1 - Time with family: I love the feeling of togetherness that comes with this time of year. Not only as our family of 4, but also within our extended family. This seems to be the time of year when we all make an effort to come together more as a family. McKenna and Chase love seeing their cousins, aunts and uncles and I think it makes us all realize that we need to make an effort to get together more often.
#2 - Family Movie Night: Throughout the regular part of the year (ie. Not Christmas time!) we usually only have family movie night once or twice per month. But during the month of December the 4 of us usually curl up together on the couch with a big bowl of popcorn and watch some sort of Christmas movie or cartoon 2 or 3 times a week! The kids really look forward to it and Jason and I love having the extra cuddle time with the 2 of them!
#3 - Cooking: I have really developed a love of cooking over the last year or so. I've been experimenting with lots of new recipes and finding lots of new favorites. McKenna and I are both looking forward to starting our holiday baking. AND I love that this is a hobby that I get to share with and hopefully instill a love of in my own daughter!
#4 - Rosy Cheeks, Bundled Up Kids, and Hot Chocolate With Marshmallows: The kids love playing outside in the snow! One day last week there was actually enough of it that we were able to bundle them up and let them play in it for a while. They had an absolute blast! Of course the best part of it was when they came in all rosy cheeked and we all sat at the table and drank Hot Chocolate!

#5 - Finding the PERFECT gift: I'm a certified SHOPAHOLIC so when there is a holiday associated with shopping I'm in my height of glory! LOL! I really do love buying for others, especially for Jason and the kids. I love trying to come up with a gift that is going to be truly meaningful to them.
Oh, and while we are talking about the perfect gift...I just have to say that I got Jason the ABSOULTE most perfect gift EVER!!! He is going to be so surprised! It's nothing that he's ever asked for, yet something that he has wanted for as long as I've known him. I can't wait until we give it to him!!!
#6 - Black Friday: This goes right along with #5, but I must say that Black Friday is my absolute favorite day to shop! I love finding the bargains and great deals...I even like standing in long lines and befriending the people in front of and behind me - LOL! I'm a planner when it comes to Black Friday shopping. I get all of the ads on Thanksgiving Day and sit down with a notebook to make out a plan...where to be, what time to be there and what to get! (YES, I'm a bit anal about my shopping plan!!!)
#7 - Our Hot Tub: There's not a better way to end a long winter day than by sitting out underneath the stars with snow falling all around you while you are all warm and comfy in the hot tub - especially when you have to shovel a path through the snow on the deck to get into it!
#8 - Trees, Lights and Decorations: I am usually one of those people who has the tree and lights up BEFORE Thanksgiving! I just love the coziness that is created by having TONS of white lights inside our house! (This year I have even more up than I have in the past!) And I love driving around at night with Jason and the kids looking for the prettiest, most lit up houses! We have our landscaping lit up with both multi colored and white lights.
#9 - The Excitement That Is SANTA: I just love the eagerness and anticipation that my kids feel in waiting for Santa to arrive! I love seeing them so excited as they leave out the milk and cookies and sprinkle the reindeer food on the lawn on Christmas Eve. It really is a magical time in the eyes of a child!
#10 - Family Traditions: We have quite a few Christmas traditions in our family, but I'm going to post about my 2 favorites.
Special Ornaments: Every year Jason and I (aka Santa!) pick out one special ornament for each kid. This year McKenna is getting a bike ornament since she learned to ride her bike without training wheels this past summer. Chase is getting a Cars ornament in honor of his Cars big boy bed. Santa will leave these wrapped underneath the trees in their bedrooms at some point on Christmas Eve. The kids get to open them and put them in a special place on our big Christmas tree. They each have a box that I keep their special ornaments in and we will give them their ornament box when they move out to use on their own Christmas tree.
Christmas PJ's: When the kids find their wrapped ornaments they also find another package from Santa. This package always contains their matching Christmas PJ's. They will wear them to bed on Christmas Eve and look absolutely adorable in them on Christmas morning!
Chase is too young to remember these extra gifts, but McKenna is super excited about them!
Oh, wait...there is one more. The most important thing:
#11 - Remembering the Reason for the Season: McKenna is almost 6 and is really starting to understand the true meaning behind Christmas. Sure she absolutely loves the idea of Santa and adores the lights, trees, presents and excitement. But, if you ask her why we give presents on Christmas Day she'll tell you that it's to help us remember baby Jesus's birthday since the wisemen gave him presents on that day. She's also getting more excited about the "giving" aspect of Christmas. She understands that not all kids have what she has. Last year she had a hard time giving up some of her old or rarely used toys to Toy Time, but this year she was really excited about it and even gave away some things that surprised me.
